Team SolRx Race Report- Ford Iron Man 70.3 Hawaii - "Ultra Girls dance with Madam Pele"

Team SolRx UltraGirls Amy Bennett and Kim Hill turned out stellar performances at the recent Ford Iron Man 70.3 on the "Big Island" of Hawaii on 2 June.

The ladies faced a challenging field of 1100 competitors featuring some of the world's best including Samantha McGlone , Michellie Jones and Rachael Ross.

Aside from stiff competition, the heat, lava rock and the wrath of Madam Pele- Goddess of the Volcano, took its toll on many athletes.

Despite a flat and some "rim riding", Amy Bennett finished a tremendous second place in age group and qualified for the Iron Man World Championships!
Despite flatting, Amy still maintained a 21. 1 MPH pace on the bike! UltraGirl Kim Hill finished with a very respectable eighth place in age group. finishing strong despite the tough conditions.

The race venue at the world renown Mauna Lani Resort and the incredible support eased the pain and made the event unforgettable.
Those of you thinking of tackling a half-IM this is the one to do!! The bike course traverses the storied "Queen K" highway and the race finish is on the second hole of the award-winning Francis H. I'i Brown Golf Course. Ultra Girl Marion Summerer is still conquering Europe in a 2 month racing tour. She recently placed second in a world cup mountain bike race- reports and pics forthcoming.

Amy and Marion will get dirty at the upcoming 17 June Xterra Eastern Championships in Richmond, VA, the team's next major venue.

Hey Crash- thanks for the fueling detail! Sooo...one last question, can you equate that to bottles per hour....is that like 2 bike bottles of liquid per hour or more?
